Relationship

A defined link that connects Records together, turning isolated data into a navigable business graph.

type: data-model · status: draft · abstraction: instance

What it is

A Relationship is how IMOS connects different pieces of information together to form a complete, navigable picture of the business. Instead of data living in isolated silos, Relationships link records directly to one another — for example, connecting a specific Order to its Customer, or linking raw materials to a Bill of Materials.

These connections are deeply understood by the platform. IMOS always knows exactly what type of record is being linked, and whether it expects a single connection or many. When users or AI agents interact with a record, they do not just see plain text descriptions; they see semantic links that define the actual flow of the business.

Relationships maintain a strict single source of truth. If a production run is reassigned to a different machine, that change is made in exactly one place and instantly reflected across the entire platform. By natively understanding how records relate, IMOS enables users to click seamlessly through their supply chain and gives intelligent agents the interactive map they need to explore dependencies and automate complex workflows.

Why it exists

Manufacturing does not operate in isolated spreadsheets; it is driven by dependencies. Machines produce parts, suppliers fulfil purchase orders, and shifts map to personnel. We need Relationships to turn flat lists of records into an interconnected business graph.

By making these links explicit and native to the platform, we give AI agents and automation flows a reliable map to trace processes from end to end. Instead of relying on brittle text matching, IMOS guarantees that every link points to a real, verified record. This allows the platform to safely execute multi-step automations and roll up insights across the entire company.
